Youth & Teen Counselling
A space to be heard and seen
Adolescence and young adulthood are times of growth, change, and discovery — and they can be overwhelming to navigate alone. Whether it’s anxiety, identity, friendships, or family stress, youth and teen counselling offers a safe and non-judgmental space to talk, reflect, and learn new ways of coping.
At In Good Company Counselling, we believe that young people thrive when they feel heard and supported on their own terms. Our counsellors create a space that encourages curiosity and self-expression, helping youth develop insight, confidence, and practical tools to manage life’s challenges.
When counselling can help
Counselling can be helpful for youth and teens who are:
Feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or withdrawn
Struggling with low self-esteem or self-criticism
Coping with family or peer conflict
Navigating gender identity, sexuality, or belonging
Managing school, performance, or social pressure
Experiencing loss, change, or trauma
Whether support is short-term or ongoing, therapy helps youth strengthen emotional awareness, communication, and resilience — skills that last far beyond adolescence.
Our approach
Our approach is collaborative, empowering, and centred on helping young people build self-awareness and confidence. Drawing from Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, we explore the different “parts” within — the protective, playful, or self-critical parts — and how each carries wisdom and intention.
Through curiosity and compassion, youth learn to understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and trust their own inner voice. When helpful, caregivers are included to strengthen communication and support at home, while always respecting the youth’s autonomy and agency.
Who we support
We work with youth and young adults (approximately ages 12–25) throughout Vancouver and British Columbia.
Our team is experienced in supporting:
Queer, trans, and gender-diverse youth
Neurodivergent teens, including those with ADHD and autism
Racialized, cross-cultural, and immigrant youth
Youth navigating complex family or school dynamics
Our goal is to provide a space that feels inclusive, compassionate, and grounded in respect — where young people can explore who they are and what they need to grow.
How therapy supports young people
Youth counselling can help your teen or young adult:
Identify emotions and express them safely
Build coping and communication skills
Explore identity and self-worth
Strengthen relationships and social confidence
Develop a greater sense of agency and direction
Therapy isn’t about “fixing” — it’s about learning to understand and work with what you feel, with guidance that’s collaborative, compassionate, and real.
Frequently Asked Questions

We typically work with youth and young adults between 12 and 25 years old. Younger clients are considered on a case-by-case basis to ensure the fit and approach are developmentally appropriate.
-
Yes. Youth in BC can access confidential counselling without parental consent if they are capable of understanding the process. Confidentiality and its limits are always discussed clearly at the start of therapy.
-
Sometimes. Depending on the goals of therapy, sessions may include or exclude caregivers. Counsellors can provide guidance on when parental involvement is helpful and when it’s best for the youth to meet individually.
-
Yes. Many young people prefer the comfort and flexibility of online therapy. We use secure, encrypted platforms to ensure privacy and accessibility across BC via JaneApp.
-
There’s no set timeline. Some clients come for a few sessions to build coping tools, while others continue longer-term for ongoing support and growth. Counsellors collaborate with youth (and caregivers, when appropriate) to determine the best pace.
