Couples & Relationship Counselling
At In Good Company Counselling, we believe that healthy relationships are built — not found. Relationship therapy offers a space to slow down, rebuild trust, and strengthen the connection that brought you together in the first place. Whether you’re facing recurring conflict, navigating communication breakdowns, exploring non-monogamy, or simply wanting to deepen intimacy, our counsellors provide collaborative, affirming, and compassionate support.
We welcome all relationship structures, including monogamous, polyamorous, open, queer, and chosen-family constellations, and work with partnerships of all genders, orientations, and configurations. You don’t have to figure it out alone, we’re here, in good company.
Why choose relationship counselling with us?
Relationally focused. We view relationships as living systems that are dynamic, imperfect, and always evolving. Therapy helps partners understand each other’s needs, values, and communication styles while building empathy and mutual respect.
Inclusive & affirming. We honour the diversity of love. Whether you’re queer, trans, neurodivergent, monogamous or non-monogamous, newly partnered or decades in, our therapists offer a non-judgmental space to explore your connection.
Emotionally focused. Drawing from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Gottman Method, and attachment-based approaches, we help you understand patterns of disconnection and rediscover ways to reach for one another.
Context-aware. We recognize that relationships don’t exist in isolation and that they’re shaped by culture, family systems, social conditioning, and lived experience. We help you name those influences and find agency within them.
Flexible options. Sessions are available in-person in Vancouver (on the lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations) or online across British Columbia.

What a typical process looks like
Complimentary 15-minute consultation. Finding the right fit matters. We offer a no-cost 15-minute phone call to discuss your goals as a couple or relationship unit and to see if our approach feels right for you.
First session. We start by understanding your relationship story, what brought you together, what’s been hard, and what you’re hoping will change. Together, we’ll clarify your shared goals and set a direction for therapy that supports healing and reconnection.
Ongoing work. Sessions are 50–80 minutes (depending on agreed-upon structure) and may include communication skill-building, emotional regulation strategies, attachment repair, or exploring family-of-origin patterns that influence how you relate and find connection within the relationship.
Review & adapt. We periodically reflect together on what’s improving, what’s emerging, and what still needs attention — ensuring the process remains meaningful and responsive to both of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

At In Good Company, we use the terms interchangeably. “Relationship counselling” reflects our belief that healing and growth aren’t limited to romantic partnerships — we also support friendships, family dynamics, and chosen-family constellations.
-
Most of the time, but not always. While joint sessions are most common, your counsellor may recommend or request individual sessions to explore personal patterns or support deeper relational insights into your relationship. Many include this as a part of their initial intake session.
-
No, we welcome relationships of all configurations, including triads, polycules, open partnerships, and family-of-origin work. What matters most is that everyone present wants to participate in improving the relationship. Please note that fee structures may change depending on the number of involved parties.
-
Yes. Relationship therapy is offered in-person in Vancouver or online anywhere in British Columbia. Many clients find online sessions equally effective in supporting their goals while offering increased flexibility and convenience.
-
That’s okay. Counselling can provide a space to clarify what each of you wants and needs, whether that means rebuilding, redefining, or parting with mutual care and respect. We often work with couples/relationships who choose to de-couple consciously and with care.
