Individual Counselling

At In Good Company Counselling, we believe that one-on-one therapy offers a profound opportunity to explore your inner world, understand the context of your life, and build the kind of resilience that honours your full story. Whether you’re experiencing anxiety, neurodivergence, relational complexity, identity transitions, or simply searching for clarity, our individual counselling service is designed to meet you where you are, in a safe, affirming and inclusive environment. We welcome folks of all backgrounds and identities to seek support in good company.

Why choose individual counselling with us?

Tailored support. Every person comes with a unique mosaic of experience. Our registered clinical counsellors (RCC’s) craft sessions that honour your identity, including your particular cultural, relational, and spiritual context.

Deep relevance. We don’t just treat symptoms, we support the person in the world they live within. We examine how your identity, your relationships, your work, and your meaning-making shape what you’re going through and how they can become sources of strength.

Affirming & inclusive. We welcome change. Whether you’re navigating questions around gender or sexual orientation, cultural roots, neurodivergence, spirituality, relationship structures, or personal transformation, our therapists provide affirming, trauma-informed support that honours your whole self.

Flexible delivery. You can access sessions either in-person in Vancouver (lands of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations) or online across British Columbia.

Evidence-informed and compassionate. Our approach draws from trauma-informed, relational, strengths-based, and context-sensitive therapy models that respect your autonomy and support sustainable change.

What a typical session looks like

Complimentary 15-minute consultation. Finding the right fit is important. We offer a no-cost 15-minute phone call so you can ask questions, share what you’re looking for in seeking support and decide if you’d like to move forward with therapy.

First session. We start by listening to your story, your context, your hopes. Together, we’ll define what meaningful change looks like for you and create a plan for sessions that aid in moving toward it with clarity and confidence.

Ongoing work. Sessions typically run 50 minutes and may include a mix of exploratory discussion, skills-building, reflection exercises, somatic awareness, identity work, relational mapping or trauma processing, depending on your goals.

Review & adapt. Periodically, we check in together about progress, process changes, and whether new directions are emerging.

Who this is for

You might choose individual counselling when you’re ready to:

  • Move from surviving to thriving in a world shaped by multiple, intersecting identities.

  • Unpack patterns of living that have served you in survival mode but are now limiting your growth and inner peace.

  • Navigate a major life shift (transition, identity, relationship style, recent mental health diagnosis) and seek support for this change

  • Deepen your self-understanding, reclaim agency and choice, build resilient inner-resources, and connect more fully with yourself and others.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • If something feels heavy, confusing, or stuck, and you want support making sense of it, individual counselling can help. You don’t need a diagnosis or a crisis to start. We’re ready to meet you where you’re at.

  • Clients often come for anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship patterns, identity questions, trauma, grief, or big life changes. Sometimes it’s just a feeling that something isn’t working anymore.

  • That’s completely okay. Many people start therapy without a clear plan. Your counsellor will help guide the conversation and move at a pace that feels manageable.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a few months, others longer. We’ll check in along the way and adjust based on what feels helpful for you.

  • Feeling unsure is very common. Your first session will give space to talk about the process, things you might expect, and to work with your counsellor to build a collaborative space to support you and your concerns.

  • Yes. We offer online counselling across British Columbia, as well as in-person sessions in Vancouver.
